Starting the journey...

As you know, I am taking part in the Distinguished Leadership in Practice (DLP) program this school year and my current assignment revolves around the topic of student engagement.  I am inviting you to be a part in my most recent assignment.  My assignment is as follows:

Activity

Part 1:
  1. Select a team from your school (two or more) of teachers (i.e., grade level, members of your leadership team, an existing PLC, National Board candidates, etc.) to partner with you on this assignment. Identify the teacher partners for assignments related to student engagement.
  2. Discuss with the teachers that you will be doing (at least one) classroom walk through for the sole purpose of observing the degree of student engagement.
The second part of this activity involves you viewing two quick clips and answering the following questions:
1. How important is student engagement to academic success?

2.  When thinking about student engagement, what do you believe hinders the students' engagement in your lessons the most?

3. How do these short videos illustrate the changing voice of our students as internal stakeholders of the educational process?
