No Child Left Out!

Mrs. Lee, Ms. Dunkins, and I have been at the No Child Left Out Conference since Thursday evening and we are very excited about the things that we have learned here.  Today, before we leave, we have to create an action plan to bring home to ensure that all we have learned doesn't go to waste.  Don't worry!  This doesn't mean that you will have more to do.  This just means that we are going to move a little closer to GREAT!

One quote that I encountered in a workshop was "If the corn doesn't grow, nobody ask what's wrong with the corn".  Now for some of you, you are totally confused by this quote.  What does corn have to do with our students.  Well, corn grows from one kernel, one seed.  If a farmer plants the corn and it doesn't grow, farmers don't start their problem solving thinking with the corn being the reason.  No, the farmer looks at what they did.  They look at their plan and see if they provided enough water.  Was there enough water?  Did they plant it deep enough?  Did they protect the seed from damage?

I believe we need to do more of this in our job as educators.  Let's focus on what we are doing and less on what our students are bringing us (that we can do little about).  I am excited about all the great things we can do between now and June 10, 2014.

This week's video clip is about why we should not stress about the EOG or the RtA process.  If we teach like our hair is on fire everyday...If we give our best everyday...If we teach our students how to problem solve and how to persist even when they face a hard task or challenging fete...OUR STUDENTS WILL SHOW GROWTH AND/OR PASS THE END OF GRADE TEST.  Let's look at what we the farmers (ALL THOSE WHO WORK AT ERWIN) are doing and not the condition of the corn kernels (OUR STUDENTS).

Can't wait to see ALL of you on Monday :)
